This is the second post of the “Getting to know the Anthesis Board” series. We will be continuing to introduce you to the dedicated volunteers who lead Anthesis in our mission to support independent and inclusive lives for adults with [dis]abilities through employment and community integration. As our last post featured the Board of Director President, Doug Vincent, this post will be featuring board member, Yi Eubanks.
Q: How did you first learn about Anthesis? How long have you been with Anthesis?
A: My brother is part of PVW/Anthesis and I was also recruited by past board member, Grady Jennings. I had been asked by Grady for a couple of years, but she finally said yes. This will be my 4th year on the Board.
Q: Why did you decide to join the Anthesis Board?
A: I decided to join because Grady had been asking me for a long time and finally gave in.
Q: What do you enjoy most about volunteering with Anthesis?
A: Mitch’s food.
Q: What is your current occupation (or what position did you retire from)?
A: I am currently a Special Education Teacher (Transition class) at Ayala High School.
Q: Favorite accomplishment?
A: Being in the Army and getting her master’s degree.
Q: How do you prefer to spend your free time?
A: I love to exercise and watch Chinese drama shows.
Q: Where did you grow-up? What makes it unique? Where is home now?
A: I moved around a lot. I was born in Taiwan, moved to Bolivia where I lived for 6 months, and then I moved to the United States at 12/13 years old. I’ve lived in Kansas and Georgia before moving to California. Home for her me now is Chino Hills.
Q: What is an interesting fact about yourself?
A: I practice Krav Maga, a self-defense technique.
Q: What skills/expertise do you bring to the Anthesis Board?
A: I bring a special ed. perspective to the Board.
Q: What is something you wish the public knew about the participants that Anthesis serves?
A: That our participants enjoy the simple things in life, and they get to the heart of the matter.
