About Anthesis

Anthesis has provided services to the intellectual and developmentally disabled community since 1966.
Our Mission

Our mission is to support independent and inclusive lives for adults with disabilities through employment and community integration.

Motivated to Ensure a Full and Productive Life

Back when our local area was called the Pomona Valley, services for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities were extremely limited. The regulatory landscape was very different, and there were few options for care and services, outside of state institutions. This limited availability of care options created anxiety and challenges for these individuals and their families.

Motivated to ensure a full and productive life for their disabled adult children, a small group of determined parents created Pomona Valley Workshop (PVW) in 1966. This new organization served 15 individuals and provided programs out of their own homes in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

Since then, our rich history of services for adults with disabilities has transformed and grown over the past 60 years. Anthesis serves approximately 400 individuals annually in our community day and supported employment programs.

Develop Skills and Confidence to Blossom and Empower

How do we maintain the operational foundation of those first parents, while leading the way through some of the most significant changes to our industry since the 1960s?

In 2017, we officially changed our name from Pomona Valley Workshop (PVW) to Anthesis to perfectly capture our mission: To support adults with disabilities develop the skills and confidence to blossom and empower them to bloom into contributing members of the community.

Our participants have the opportunity for community integration, volunteer opportunities, attending college, and securing employment, earning a competitive wage with support from our committed, caring staff.
