Shining a Light on Darlene

Darlene began with Anthesis on September 18, 1967 in the Work Activity Program where she completed countless job tasks and was always successful at each one.  She worked in that program for 47 ½ years when in March of 2014, Darlene requested to transfer to the ‘Round About Senior Services (RASS) to retire and to engage in recreational and leisure activities in her community.  She enjoys museums and other community outings, but especially likes going to restaurants to eat out with her friends. Darlene said she hopes things can resume to normal so she can be with her friends. Darlene is a cancer survivor and she definitely loves the support from her program friends.  When Darlene was in the hospital, her friends would take the time to go and visit her.  Darlene’s friendship with Michael R. is very special to her.  During COVID-19, she realizes that taking care of her health is very important although, she enjoys talking to her friends via Zoom with the assistance of staff members Sharon M. and Lucy J.  Darlene continues to receive programming through Zoom and phone calls such as safety training for COVID-19, health skills, arts and crafts activities and projects mailed to her, stretching and exercise activities via Zoom, and social interaction with peers.  Darlene’s family is very important to her.  She lives with her brother Mike and sister-in-law Maria who both are very active and supportive in Darlene’s life and program.  Throughout the many seasons of Darlene’s life, she has proven that the best part of life is being connected with her friends and doing things she enjoys, everything!
