An at-home success story

Marianne C. began at Anthesis on April 6, 2015, as part of the ‘Round About Senior Services program (‘RASS). ‘RASS provides senior citizens with disabilities (ages 50 and up) with care, age-appropriate activities, and daily socialization to maintain skills while they enjoy retirement, Marianne was eager to join a program where she can continue to work on her goals and focus on the things that are important to her, including her independence, family, and friends.

Prior the COVID-19 pandemic, Marianne eagerly attended every outing and enjoyed participating in ‘RASS activities. One of her favorite activities was creating crafts and selling them in the ‘RASS Craft Fair to earn a little bit extra spending money. Marianne finds joy in being a part of the ‘RASS community and spending her retirement with her friends. She especially looks forward to road trips – whether she’s visiting the world’s largest cup or delivering donated goods to Loma Linda’s Ronald McDonald House, Marianne enjoys a nice car ride.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anthesis switched to providing services remotely. This was a change for Marianne, but she was willing to try new activities while being home. Marianne, with the support of her senior instructor, worked on life skills to improve her independence and health. She learned to cook healthy recipes, took walks around her apartment, made daily phone calls to her friends, and participated in Zumba Zoom classes. Although these activities were different than her normal in-person routine with her friends and the transition to remote services was difficult, Marianne nevertheless appreciates the staff’s hard work and creativity to deliver programming and activities.

Marianne is looking forward to going back out in the community in person. She is especially looking forward to shopping with her friends! No matter where she goes, Marianne has a positive attitude, appreciates the experience, and has a good time!
