CARES Act Supports Year-End Giving

2020 is rapidly coming to an end. It has been a year like no other and we have all had to learn new ways to accomplish our goals and get things done. One thing is even more true now than it was last year is Anthesis cannot offer the services we do without the support of our community. Because of your support, Anthesis has the resources we needed to pivot and continue to offer critical services to adults with [dis]abilities through new socially distant models of service. Thank you for making the needs of adults with [dis]abilities a priority!

As the year wraps up and many of you are considering year-end gifts we wanted to make sure you were aware of new guidelines released earlier this year from the IRS that will allow more people to easily deduct up to $300 in donations to Anthesis and other qualifying charities this year.

According to the IRS website cash donations of up to $300 made before December 31, 2020, are now deductible when people file their taxes in 2021. “Our nation’s charities are struggling to help those suffering from COVID-19, and many deserving organizations can use all the help they can get,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “The IRS reminds people there’s a new provision that allows for up to $300 in cash donations to qualifying organizations to be deducted from income. We encourage people to explore this option to help deserving tax-exempt organizations – and the people and causes they serve.”

The IRS goes on to say “Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, enacted last spring, includes several temporary tax changes helping charities, including the special $300 deduction designed especially for people who choose to take the standard deduction, rather than itemizing their deductions.”

All of us at Anthesis appreciate your support of the services and programs offered and are grateful for your ongoing commitment to our mission to support independent and inclusive lives for adults with [dis]abilities through employment and community integration. We hope this information is useful to you in your year-end planning. If you would like further clarification or information on how the CARES act impacts charitable giving please feel free to reach out to Mitch Gariador, Executive Director at mitch@anthesis.us.
